Cancellation Policy
This Cancellation Policy explains how to cancel a paid Rust Shield subscription, what happens when you cancel, and how cancellation affects your access, license, and data. It applies to all paid Rust Shield plans purchased from Rust Shield through rustshieldsecurity.com or the Rust Shield application.
Rust Shield is a fast, lightweight antivirus for Windows and macOS built around a Rust core. It is offered on a Free plan and two recurring paid plans, Plus and Pro. Cancellation only concerns the paid Plus and Pro plans, because the Free plan has no recurring charge and nothing to cancel.
1. Overview
Your Rust Shield paid subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period so that your protection continues without interruption. You can turn off that automatic renewal at any time by cancelling. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not immediately end the plan you have already paid for, and it does not by itself trigger a refund.
In short:
- Cancellation is self-service and takes effect immediately for future renewals.
- You keep your paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- Cancellation and refunds are separate — cancelling does not automatically return money to you.
- After the paid period ends, your account moves to the Free plan rather than being deleted.
2. Plans This Policy Covers
The following recurring plans are subject to this policy:
| Plan | Price | Billing | Key features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | None (nothing to cancel) | 1 device, signature and heuristic scanning, quarantine |
| Plus | $3.99 / month | Recurring, auto-renewing | Real-time protection, web protection, cloud backup 500MB, unlimited scans |
| Pro | $6.99 / month | Recurring, auto-renewing | Network scan, cloud backup 5GB, priority support |
Because the Free plan carries no charge, references to cancellation in this document mean cancelling a paid Plus or Pro subscription.
3. How to Cancel
You may cancel your subscription at any time, for any reason, using either of the methods below. There is no cancellation fee and no penalty for cancelling.
3.1 Cancel from your account or dashboard
The fastest way to cancel is directly from your account:
- Sign in to your Rust Shield account on rustshieldsecurity.com or open the Rust Shield application.
- Open your account or subscription settings (often labelled Billing, Subscription, or Plan).
- Select your current plan and choose the option to cancel or turn off automatic renewal.
- Confirm the cancellation. You should see the subscription status change to reflect that it will not renew, along with the date your paid access ends.
We recommend keeping the on-screen or emailed confirmation for your records.
3.2 Cancel by email
If you cannot access your dashboard, or you would prefer that we process the cancellation for you, email us at [email protected] from the address associated with your account. To help us locate and verify your subscription quickly, please include:
- The email address on the account.
- The plan you are on (Plus or Pro).
- A brief statement that you wish to cancel and stop future auto-renewal.
We will action email cancellation requests during Mon–Fri, 9am–6pm. As long as your request reaches us before your next renewal date, we will ensure the upcoming renewal does not proceed. If a request arrives very close to a renewal, please see the timing guidance in Section 5.
3.3 Cancellations through an app store or third party
If you purchased or subscribed through a third-party platform (for example an app store or a reseller), that platform may manage your billing. In that case you may need to cancel through the platform's own subscription management screen, and the platform's cancellation and refund terms may also apply. [Confirm which app stores or resellers, if any, sell Rust Shield subscriptions and link their cancellation instructions.]
4. What Happens When You Cancel
4.1 Future auto-renewal stops
When you cancel, automatic renewal is turned off. This means you will not be charged again for that subscription at the next renewal date. No further recurring charges will be applied once the cancellation is recorded.
4.2 Access continues until the end of the paid period
Cancelling does not immediately downgrade your account. You keep full access to your plan's paid features — such as real-time protection, web protection, cloud backup, network scan, and priority support, depending on your tier — through the end of the billing period you have already paid for. Your protection is not switched off the moment you click cancel.
For example, if you are on a monthly plan and you cancel partway through the month, your paid features remain active until the last day of that already-paid month, and then the subscription simply does not renew.
4.3 Cancellation does not automatically refund you
Cancelling stops future charges, but it does not, by itself, return any money you have already paid for the current period. Cancellation and refunds are handled separately. Whether you are eligible for a refund of the current period depends on our Refund Policy. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, or you would like to request one, please review the Refund Policy and follow the steps described there.
4.4 What happens after the paid period ends
At the end of your paid period, your account does not disappear. Instead:
- Your account is moved to the Free plan automatically.
- You continue to have access to Free-plan capabilities: protection for one device, signature and heuristic scanning, and quarantine.
- Paid-only features become unavailable — for example, real-time protection, web protection, network scan, and cloud backup uploads stop being active.
- Malware definitions continue to update, so basic on-demand scanning remains effective.
5. Timing and Billing Cycles
To avoid being charged for the next period, please make sure your cancellation is completed before your renewal date. Renewals are processed automatically on the renewal date, and a charge that has already been initiated may not be preventable simply by cancelling afterward.
- Cancel through the dashboard as soon as you decide not to continue; the change to auto-renewal is recorded immediately.
- If cancelling by email, allow enough time for us to process the request during Mon–Fri, 9am–6pm, especially if your renewal date is near.
- If a renewal charge is taken because a cancellation request arrived after the renewal had already processed, that charge is treated as a refund question under the Refund Policy, not a cancellation question.
6. Effect on Your License and Devices
Your Rust Shield license entitlement follows your active plan. While your paid period is running, your license continues to authorize the paid features and device allowances for your tier. When the paid period ends and the account returns to the Free plan, your license entitlement adjusts to the Free tier's limits, including its single-device allowance.
- You do not need to uninstall Rust Shield after cancelling; the application keeps working at the Free level.
- If you had more devices protected than the Free plan allows, you may need to choose which device remains covered under the Free entitlement.
- You can reactivate a paid plan at any time to restore your previous device allowance and paid features.
7. What Happens to Your Data
We aim to make cancellation low-risk for your local security posture and your stored information.
7.1 On-device data
Data that lives on your device — including your scan history, quarantine contents, settings, and local definition database — stays on your device and is not deleted by the act of cancelling. You continue to control that data through the application.
7.2 Cloud backup data
If your plan included cloud backup (500MB on Plus or 5GB on Pro), the ability to upload new backups and, in most cases, to restore from cloud backups is a paid feature that stops when your paid period ends. Any files already stored in your cloud backup may be retained for a limited period to give you the chance to reactivate or retrieve them, and may then be removed in line with our retention practices. [State the exact cloud-backup retention window after downgrade and whether restore is available during that window.] If you want to retrieve cloud-backed-up files, do so before your paid period ends or contact us promptly at [email protected].
7.3 Account and billing records
Your account record and associated billing history are retained after cancellation so that you can reactivate later and so that we can meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations. Retention and deletion of personal data are governed by our Privacy Policy. If you want your account fully closed and your personal data deleted, rather than simply moved to the Free plan, please contact us and we will handle the request in accordance with applicable data-protection law in [Governing jurisdiction].
8. Reactivating After Cancellation
You are welcome back at any time. To restore paid features:
- Sign in to your account on rustshieldsecurity.com or in the application.
- Choose a paid plan (Plus or Pro) and complete checkout.
- Your paid features and device allowance are restored, and a new billing period begins.
Because a new subscription starts a fresh billing cycle, the price and plan features in effect at the time you reactivate will apply.
9. Involuntary Cancellation and Failed Payments
A subscription may also end without an explicit cancellation request, for example if a renewal payment repeatedly fails or if the account is terminated under our Terms of Service. If a renewal payment fails, we may retry the charge and notify you so you can update your payment details. If payment cannot be collected, the subscription may lapse and the account will return to the Free plan in the same way as a voluntary cancellation.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cancellation Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our products, billing systems, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will update the date shown on this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the application or by email. The version in effect at the time you cancel governs that cancellation.
